My Appalchian Trail Adventure

I wanted to let you guys know about my latest adventure this year: on the Appalachian Trail! (or the AT, as we experienced hikers like to call it). We started at Springer Mountain in Georgia, that's all the way at the beginning.

Yessir, I've been on plenty of trails, but never the daddy of them all. Well my owner, Matt, he says to me, "Roxy girl, you ready for the big time?"

And I told him "Woof! Woof!" which means you betcha in dog.

I had so much fun with all the new smells and even got to wear my own pack. I had one when I was younger but my owner, Matt he told me I had "gotten too big around the middle for it."

Harumph, I say. Well we hiked all day the first day. Saw all kinds of things: waterfalls, pretty views of the mountains, streams and creeks that I love to splash and swim around in, and my favorite thing in the world: squirrels, this place was squirrel heaven.

We ended up camping in a tent, but I had never slept outside on my own before so Matt let me stay in the tent with him, but it was still really scary so my owner (he's so great) says to me "poor little girl, hop in the sleeping bag, it'll be all right." Well I knew we would be ok then because he knows his way around outside and sometimes even takes me hiking in the night with a flashlight or sometimes none at all, and we've never gotten lost.

We hiked 17 miles that first day which I thought was a tough day so I had no idea what to expect the next, but Matt, he's smart, knew what he was doing and we had hiked most of the way back already, so we only had 3 miles left to hike, and wouldn't you know it, the truck never moved. I was so happy, we were going home! I love it outside but I love seeing my other two-legs as well. (That's what I call you people, two legs, and Matt's got two other ones that live with him, though one is sometimes a four legs and they call her a "baby," so I'm still trying to figure that one out.

Until next time, see you on the trail...
